NGK Μπουζί Ιριδίου/Iridium Spark Plugs
Buy Iridium Spark Plugs @ Street & Circuit here
Iridium spark plugs are around 4 times more expensive than replacement platinum spark plugs, why the difference?
Imagine this picture
You car is in for its regular service. Its been 10,000km since your last one.
You start to remove the platinum spark plugs you have been using.
You start checking the tips of the spark plugs as you take them out.
You notice that the electrode has been eroded away.
Instead of the correct gap of 0.8mm, you are looking at a gap of 1.5mm.
And then you realise. You have been driving your car for the past 6,000km or more with spark plugs which have a massively bigger gap than they should have.
Your ignition system has been put under massive strain because it has been bridging a much bigger spark gap.
The power of your car and the fuel efficiency has been compromised because of the weak spark.
Your ignition system has been asked for much more power to bridge the bigger spark gap than is normal.
But you have seen this before. Every time your car is in for service you change your spark plugs, sometimes the erosion is not too bad, other times it is noticeable just by looking at the end of the spark plug.
But it doesn’t need to be this way
With iridium spark plugs you will see no noticeable wear on the electrode year after year.
With iridium spark plugs you know your spark plugs are performing as they were designed, no enlarged spark gap that you are forcing your ignition system to bridge.
With platinum spark plugs you know in the back of your mind that the spark plug is slowly increasing every week, with Iridium you know the spark plug is exactly how it was when you put it in the engine.
There is a reason platinum electrodes are fat
It’s because the wear away. Manufacturers use fat electrodes to make the spark plug last longer.
With Iridium it is not necessary, manufacturers can use tiny electrodes because they simply do not erode in the same way as platinum.
If you want perfect ignition performance for tens of thousands of KMs
There is only 1 choice, iridium spark plugs. Car manufacturers would use them over platinum every day of the week, if, the price was the same as platinum.
Fit iridium spark plugs if:
You want perfect ignition performance always
You don’t want your ignition performance to deteriorate week by week.
You want a spark plug that you can use for many years
You don’t want to pay for new spark plugs every year, spark plugs which you know will deteriorate as soon as you start using them.
Yes Iridium Spark Plugs Are More Expensive
But you don’t have to replace them every year
And you get perfect ignition performance throughout the time you use them
Yes the upfront costs are more
But you get the money back because you don’t need to replace them as often
Plus, you get perfect ignition performance because the electrodes don’t erode like platinum
Yes the upfront costs are more than platinum spark plugs but the extra investment more than pays for itself
Platinum spark plugs are a false economy. Buy Iridium. Save money. Get better engine performance.
