Φιλτροχοάνη Pipercross – Is it a strong filter?

We have seen a dealer selling damaged Pipercross Φιλτροχοάνη so I thought  I would write an article about it (why anyone would sell a damaged air filter is beyond me)

Φιλτροχοάνη Pipercross – Is a Pipercross cone filter strong?

If you mean can you fit and remove the filter by holding the filter foam that answer is a 100% no.

Does a Pipercross cone filter need special handling? Absolutely.

Here is a video I did to help people look after their Pipercross cone filter.

To summarise the video

1. If you need a filter that you can constantly take on and off the car a Pipercross filter is not the best choice for you.

2. Pipercross filters should be put on the car by holding the neck ONLY and ONLY the neck of the filter. There is no strength in foam, not just the foam in a Pipercross air filter but in the foam of any foam filter.

Foam is not a strong material.

If you are finding it difficult to get your Pipercross filter onto the induction pipe then use some silicone lubricant like WD40 so the filter can go onto the pipe easily.

3. Your Pipercross filter should not be rubbing against anything in the engine bay. Again, foam is a fragile material, if it rubs on the corner of a piece of plastic then over time, it will develop a hole.

4. Your Pipercross filter should be mounted solidly in the engine bay. Again, if the filter is moving around and rubbing against parts in the engine bay then it will become damaged.

In short, if you are looking for an air filter than you do not have to treat carefully and/or a cone filter you can take on and off the car many times we do not recommend a Pipercross filter. You should go for a cone filter from K&N or AEM ie any filter than does not use foam as the filter medium.

Pipercross filters have good filtration but you do need to take extra care when you handle them and you do need to take extra time to make sure they are mounted correctly.

As long as the filter is mounted and removed holding the neck of the filter you should not have any problems.

Pipercross filters come with a lifetime warranty but the warranty does not cover damage that is caused by the filter rubber against parts in the engine bay and/or because the filter has been torn because the user has tried to remove the filter by holding the foam.

Use your common sense and your Pipercross filter should last you many many years.

I hope this article answers any questions you may have about the strength of Pipercross air filters.
